...watched willy wonka and the chocolate factory last night. i only remembering [ed. yes, clearly i'm proofreading carefully these days] seeing it once before, and now i understand why my memory fairly well erased the details of the movie and replaced them with a general sense of terror. the stuff of a kid's nightmares.
no doubt the tim burton effort will be equally unsettling.

I was dubious about a remake of the movie since it is so much a part of childhood memory - but the combination of Burton and Depp makes me think it may be alright.
Roald Dahl was pretty creepy anyway and I think Burton will maintain that nightmarish sugar coated vision.

I agree-- I managed to blur the entire film into the best-to-not-watch-before sleeping category. Especially the boat/tunnel sequence.
But based on the frantic pathos of this trailer, Burton seems to want to one-up the original in off-kilter creepiness.
