notes toward a sunday evening

natalie is once again in tanzania.

ryan has let me borrow his copy of neko case's blacklisted. he was right. i'm smitten.

talked to an old friend yesterday. one of those people you always accidentally lose for a while. dave tells me he just works and goes to the gym, now. that sounds about right.

listened to on the media just now. a story about conservative student newspapers (the show's website promises a transcript soon) got the part of my attention not dedicated to dinner prep. once again, i was lucky enough to hear the profoundly wrongheaded phrase, "too feminist." another piece, on the probably forthcoming progressive radio network, included an interview with an nyu professor, thomas de zengotita, who insists that the best sort of program would be hosted by a 30 year old abd who has read widely but remains in need of some fundamental exposure to "the facts" of history and economics. his or her sidekick would be the source of those facts. the interviewee published his idea in harper's (story not available online, but on the media offers this link. read all about it). my favorite suggestion: frederic jameson and the wachowsky brothers as simulataneous guests, joined on the phones by a reality-television actor.

for the record, as a 30-yr old abd in american literature, whose mastery of "the facts" of history and economics will very likely not land me a mcarthur genius grant, i'll note that you guys can call me any time. i have no agent and... uh... i'm free tuesdays and thursdays.

thinking about giving up the whole all lower case business. the habit began when i tried to emulate the first absolutely cool person i ever met. i was in tenth grade, and he was a graphic artist whose handwriting actually bled style. no caps. thanks to the information superhighway, i can confirm that the inspiration for my little letters continues to make beautiful things. i'm still just skipping out on the shift key. Maybe, though, people notice the absence of upper case. Perhaps something that began as teen affect transformed into laziness and has become annoying. I have lately caught myself changing cut-and-paste material into lower case, and there must be better uses for that energy.

Angels in America is on soon.
